My grandfather remembered quitting school at 18 to work so the family could eat, saying they didn’t even have towels to dry off with, a sharp contrast between what the decree promised and how that “settlement” felt in real life.

In 1935, Rebecca walked out of a Texas courtroom d In 1935, Rebecca walked out of a Texas courtroom divorced, paid, and furnished, while her husband’s own divorce request was outright denied. The judge handed her cash tied to the house and insurance, most of the household goods, and even her attorney’s fees, proving that sometimes the court really does pick a side.

Who Was R. F. Brand? While going through the 1880 Who Was R. F. Brand?

While going through the 1880 census for my Brand family, I found a daughter named R. F. Brand, born around 1872. She shows up in that one record and then disappears. I want to figure out who she was, so I am digging through records and nearby families to see if her name turns up anywhere else.

Mysteries like this are what make me love genealogy. I want to discover her story and share it with others. ❤️
